Responsible Practice

We believe the choices we make - as coffee drinkers and coffee roasters - matter. Being responsible isn’t a separate initiative for us; it’s part of how we live and how we run the business day to day.

Our Loring S15 Falcon coffee roaster’s energy-efficient system cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% - using significantly less gas than traditional drum roasters - a major influence on our decision to upgrade in 2024.

A big focus for De Groot Coffee Co. is reducing waste and minimising our environmental impact, and packaging plays a major role in that.

For our wholesale partners, coffee is delivered in reusable food-grade containers that we collect, clean and reuse as part of our regular service cycle. For retail customers, our coffee bags are home compostable - genuinely, end to end. No liners, no hidden plastics.

For our café customers, we use the Compostable Alternatives range of cups, lids, straws and carry trays for takeaway service. Like everything we do, it’s a considered approach — practical, honest, and focused on doing better where we can.

Our Philosophy

Running De Groot Coffee Co. has always been a lifestyle choice. The business is guided by a quiet, triple bottom-line philosophy - people, product and place - rather than KPIs or aggressive growth targets. Growth has come naturally, through the quality of the coffee and the relationships built with the cafés who serve their beans, and the customers who visit the roastery cellar door.
